Aromatherapy for Weight Loss

Millions of Americans battle their weight each and every year.

Some statistics say that nearly 80% of Americans over the age of 25 are overweight, with nearly 3 million people being morbidly obese.

It's well documented that being overweight can lead to a whole host of other health problems from high blood pressure and heart disease to diabetes.

Aromatherapy can be helpful in helping people in sticking to their weight loss plans, but be mindful that it is not a magical cure.

It will still take determination and effort to make it to your goals.

It's important to identify your unhealthy eating habits so that you can change the behavior.

People over eat for a variety of reasons from boredom to emotional pain. Once you identify those things, you'll be doing much better.

It will also be helpful to identify your particular food cravings. Once you do, this is where aromatherapy can be very helpful in your weight loss endeavor.

There are a number of essential oils that can help curb those cravings, based on what they are.

If you crave sweets, as many women do, then vanilla may be helpful to you. You can use vanilla essential oils in a diffuser or in aromatherapy candles to help curb the cravings, and it's estimated that just reducing the amount of sweets in one's diet can go a long way toward significant weight loss and reducing the risk of diabetes.

If you need help controlling your appetite then try bergamot or patchouli. You can use these oils in a diffuser or in a bath.

If you want to use the oil in the bath, simply add 10-15 drops to the bath water. This is great for those evening time munchies.

If you want to use the oil in a diffuser, add the same amount to an oil diffuser and inhale deeply.

This is great for those mid-afternoon snack attacks.

If you are out and about when the craving hits, fear not.

You can simply slip a bottle of either essential oil into your pocket or bag and put a couple of drops in the palms of your hands.

Rub them together to heat the oil and take a few deep breaths.

You should be feeling balanced in no time.

Other oils that can be helpful in beating the battle of the bulge are jasmine, sandalwood, and any variety of citrus scent.

There is often an emotional component to weight gain and depending on that emotion, you can select an oil to assist you.

If you have self-confidence issues, give sandalwood or jasmine a try.

These are said to boost self confidence, and even help you feel sexier too. You can beat a case of the blues with any of the citrus scents.

These essential oils are bright and uplifting and can help you shake yourself out of the slump that has you eating to comfort yourself.

You can use these oils in a diffuser or by putting a few drops on the palms of your hands, rubbing them together and inhaling.

With these simple techniques, you should be able to become the healthy person you want to be.
